Hey Folks!
Today I (hopefully) finished my failure search on the antennas. I found out, that the T-Connector to connect both 2m antennas is damaged on an electrical way, nothing to see from the outside. I’m happy that I found the bug in the system. Now I have to wait for a new part and than I can hopefully go back on air.

The antenna problem still won’t let me sleep at night. One month ago I thought I finished all on the electrical part of the Radio-Antenna system. One week ago now, I finished my rebuilding on the winch to pull the antennas back in the air. Everything seemed fine, the winch was working great with the new winchline and at the end of the day I tracked Compass-1 ! Nice o hear the sound after such a long period. The Signal strength was about S7 to S9 during the complete pass. I was really fascinated. even at low elevations the signal didn’t lost of it’s strength. I thought that everything would be fine…. Till I measured the SWR …
The 70cm Band was not quite optimal, It ounced from 1.1 to 1.6 through the band, but fortunately it was about 1.2 at the nominal frequency where we listen to our signals.
But the 2m Band was totally crap (sorry for that word, but it’s horrrible when you spend so much time to fix the system, completed the work with good results, put the antennas back in the air one month afterwards and then you realise that it’s all a waste of time) So I tried to look for the bug in the system. Now the antenna is down again and I slowly don’t feel doing this any more … Hopefully the desire repairing the antenna comes back again.

whole community in order to say THANK YOU.
Uplink frequency: 145.980 MHz FM, DTMF tones
These are as follows:
**35## - request a test beacon CW
**36## - request a test packet 1k2 AFSK FM (UI-Frame)
**60## - request a housekeeping frame in 1k2 AFSK FM (KISS frame)
See here for COMPASS decoding software (http://www.dk3wn.info/software.shtml)
We’d be happy if you send us your received data to compass1cubesat@googlemail.com
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask us.
Have much fun, 73 and thank you!

NOTE: special for April 28th coming in two days!
CONGRATS to the 5000th Orbit
At April 1st at 01:05 AM UTC COMPASS 1 has reached its 5000th orbit.
That is more than 220.1 million kilometres!
Light needs for that distance more than 12 minutes and 13.6 seconds
which is more that the distance between earth and sun.
And by the way the health of the satellite is well :-)
Compass 1 has been launched almost 1 year ago and we have less than a month
for the 1st anniversary.
The whole team of COMPASS 1 would like to say thank you again for the great
worldwide support which was unbelievable.

3. January 2009
We have successfully downloaded another picture with a better quality!
Thanks to Mike (DK3WN, Germany), Alan (ZL2BX, New Zealand) and Bob (W1ICW, USA) for the support!!!
Here are the hams which have made COMPASS-1 to a successful mission.
This is a teamwork around the globe.
HAM RADIO Mission Control TEAM
Every single ham was important for the mission.
So, thanks to all

COMPASS ONE is still in a good condition. The battery voltage is good, the solar panels deliver enough power. All Systems are working well.
I would like to thank all members of COMPASS ONE for this great and important year. The development, the mission control, the students who have helped the team and last but not least the hams world wide who have supported us excellently. It was a lot of work and therefore many thanks.
I whish you all a merry XMAS and a happy and healthful year 2009.
In behalf of the COMPASS ONE team

A new program for decoding the Beacon Data is uploaded yet! So please use this new program, it also has the function of Beacon storage :-)
The program can be found on Mike Rupprechts homepage http://www.dk3wn.info/
Hey Folks! We are sorry about not updating our homepage all the time!
But I want to let you know, that our QSL cards are here :-) fresh off the press!
So if I find time the next month, I will complete our little packet and will send it to all HAM’s who already send us a QSL card or wrote us an e-Mail.
So again may thanks to all people helping us, especially Mike (DK3WN), Alan (ZL2BX), and our Japanese friends (JA5BLZ, JA1GDE, JA0CAW) who are successfully downloading Data every day.
“A Dump per day keeps the doctor away!” Thanks to you :-)

We have successfully downloaded a couple of picture from the satellite.
Unfortunately the brightness from the earth is to high.
Some pictures are black, because COMPASS is still rotating.
Currently we are trying to fix the problem.
Extended housekeeping data have also been successfully downloaded.

We have successfully changed COMPASS into high speed mode.
We are now operating with 4k8 MSK.
Many thanks to Alan (ZL2BX) and Bob (W1ICW) of course Mike (DK3WN)
for this unbelievable help and support.
WE ARE PROUD TO KNOW YOU.
In behalf of the whole COMPASS ONE Team!
Kevin Kunz, DG9KK
Since now we have changed successfully into nominal mode.
We appreciate your support. Thx!
We receive housekeeping data via the downlink frequency 437.405 Mhz as well.
We are deeply grateful to all hams worldwide who helped us so far.
You have delivered a quick and solid work. Absolutely Great!!
